Think Pink: look & details
There are a lot of questions I'm regularly asked. 'Where did you get that dress?' (Anywhere but the cookie-cutter off the shelf stores) and 'How long did it take you to do your hair like that?" (I don't do my hair).
I get a lot of questions & comments on my makeup. First, because it's fabulous, and second... because it's fabulous! I worked for many years as a pro makeup artist and as you can tell, I really, really enjoyed it.
Makeup is one of the most amazing forms of art. I am thrilled to live in a time where makeup artistry and makeup artists (both professional and self-taught) are finally being recognized for what it is: high art.
This look was created for the "Dressed in Pink" single, which is from my new album. I used Make Up For Ever eyeshadow and bonus - you can use it as a blush too! These newly-reformulated eyeshadows are nothing short of incredible: rich color payoff and long staying power. They feel moisturizing, and go on smooth. You can buy them at Sephora stores or if you're like me, you can schedule a pilgrimage to Los Angeles to visit the store on Robertson Blvd. (There are also stores in NYC and a few other USA locations).
My favorite eyeshadow base is Too Faced's Shadow Insurance. I've never had a problem with creasing or color payoff since switching to this base. Lately I've been buying my lashes from the Beauty Supply on 30th & University. Such a great selection and the lashes are always cheaper (and bigger!) than the boring ones sold at CVS, Walgreens, etc.
For this look, I lined my entire eyes with the pink shadow, then used liquid black eyeliner before applying my lashes. Make Up For Ever shadows are pigmented enough that you can use a smaller brush to line. Also, they blend incredibly well... I've had so much fun making new colors with my large collection. >:)
Buffalo Breath in San Diego is a great place to purchase feather boas...otherwise I recommend eBay, where I purchased this pink boa. There are many great sellers on eBay who sell boas in all colors and plys (how many feathers are in the boa). This is a large and robust turkey feather boa in the "coral" color. My dress was a Macy's find... I despise Macy's after a traumatic experience working for the famous Macy's on 34th street (the only good thing that ever happened to me there was seeing Stephen Colbert)... my girlfriend Maggie swears by Macy's jewelry sales so I've tried to open my mind. I was in desperate need of a particular dress for a CD release show in 2013. Found this baby on the clearance rack and was stunned by how little it cost. Oh well! One retailer's trash... you know what they say...
We needed to use super strong lighting, so a lot of the subtle blush (New Order by Nars, a lovely lilac/lavender shimmer) and other smaller shimmery details didn't show up, but I was still thrilled with the results.
I love doing my makeup and sharing details... so more fabulous posts coming your way soon!
